Our 2024 campus engagement commemorates the tenth anniversary of the Iguala tragedy. It also goes full circle in a sense by bringing Andrés Solis and Scot Hanna-Weir to campus. Andrés and Scot collaborated with choreographer Sandra Milena Gómez on the music and dance production XLIII: A Contemporary Requiem, which was performed in the Mission Santa Clara in 2016. Andrés and Scot will be giving a public talk on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 4 PM in the Zion Room (Holland Centennial Commons and Library 537). The talk is open to the public and free.
We are screening the film of Scot and Andrés' 2016 collaboration, XLIII: A Contemporary Requiem, on Monday, September 16 at 6 PM in the Dunford Auditorium on the Utah Tech University campus. The film captures the stunning mixture of modern dance, organ, choir, and electronic music that Andrés, Scot, and choreographer Sandra Milena Gómez created in response to the 43 atrocity. The screening is open to the public and admission is free.
Jan Nimmo's loving portraits of the 43 Students, will be displayed this year in the Eccles Fine Arts building lobby on the Utah Tech campus Sept. 13 - Oct. 3.
We also will be beginning our 2024 campus engagement with an opening ceremony on Monday, Sept. 16 at 12 noon in the Eccles Fine Arts building lobby. Please join us. The event and the installation are open to the public and free to attend.
The "43 Silhouettes" installation, created in 2016 as a temporary installation, returns to Utah Tech for the fourth straight year. This year, the art installation will be placed in the lobby on the second floor of the Holland Centennial Commons and Library building on the Utah Tech University campus. The installation will be in place Sept. 13 - Oct. 3.
St. George Catholic Church once again joins Utah Tech in honoring the 43. Prayers for the 43 will be offered as part of the general intercessions at the Masses on Sunday, Sept. 22 and Thursday, Sept. 26.
